Greenpeace India has been very concerned about the recent violence that has taken place in the National capital Delhi. We wish to express our solidarity with the victims of the violence. Greenpeace has non violence as its core value and we truly believe non violence and dialogue can be the only way to resolve issues.
The Indian Constitution grants everyone equal rights, and promotes diversity. The constitution provides freedom of expression in peaceful protests as well freedom to practise religion. We urge for these values to be upheld and for the rule of law to be respected especially at the present times.
We believe the focus right now should be to support the affected people rebuild their lives and Justice to be delivered in a timely manner.
Further violent escalation of the situation should be avoided at all costs and all efforts must go into finding a peaceful way forward.
