Direct Marketing Internship (DC)

The Direct Marketing team is responsible for building the organization’s optimal long-term donor value by developing strategies and programs that increase individual donor engagement, financial revenue, and fundraising capacity for Greenpeace, USA.  The team focuses on marketing to individual donors via Direct Response and digital channels (e.g. direct mail, email, phone, mobile, etc.) to engage constituents and to raise revenue to support the mission of Greenpeace in the US and Internationally.

  • Proofreading
  • Copy editing
  • Data Management
  • Updating systems
  • Coordinating outsourced direct mail, monthly giving, and telemarketing
  • Learning about and practicing networking skills
  • Learning more about other development teams and the bigger picture
  • Attending weekly and monthly campaign update meetings
  • Collaborating across departments with the campaigns, online, communications, legal, and finance teams

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Data entry experience a plus
  • Interest in marketing a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong math skills
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to try new things
  • Ability to work as an individual and within small groups
  • Strong creative and critical thinking to come up with new and innovative ideas
  • Interest in fundraising for non-profit organizations
  • Organized and detail oriented

The Direct Marketing team is an integral part of Greenpeace’s Development Department, and is responsible for the management of fundraising for monthly and one-time donors at the $1-$499.99 level. The Direct Marketing team works with several out-of-house vendors to coordinate the mailing and telemarketing cultivation and solicitation of these donors. The team is also responsible for acquiring new donors, and for testing new methods of acquisition.
