Amapá State, Brazil – A team of scientists onboard the Greenpeace Esperanza ship have documented the existence of a rhodolith field where French company Total intends to drill for oil, 120km off the northern coast of Brazil. The finding proves the existence of a reef formation in the area and invalidates Total’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which states the closest reef formation is 8 kilometres away from one of the oil blocks.
“Now that we know the Amazon Reef extension overlaps with the perimeter of Total’s oil blocks, there is no other option for the Brazilian government but to deny the company’s license to drill for oil in the region.” said Thiago Almeida, Greenpeace Brazil campaigner.
“To learn the Amazon Reef extends beyond our expectations was one of the most exciting moments of my research about this ecosystem. The more we research about the Amazon Reef, the more we find. We still know so little about this fascinating new ecosystem and the knowledge obtained so far indicates any oil drilling activity could seriously harm this unique system.” said Fabiano Thompson, oceanographer and professor at Rio de Janeiro Federal University.
Rhodoliths are calcareous algae that work as a habitat for fish and other reef creatures. Its presence confirms the Amazon Reef extends further than previously expected, as revealed in the scientific magazine Frontiers in Marine Science. The paper, based on footage of the reef captured in January 2017 during Greenpeace’s first expedition to the region, estimates the Amazon reef to be 56,000 km2 – almost six times larger than previous scientific estimates.
The paper also indicates this larger reef could be a marine biodiversity corridor linking the South Atlantic ocean to the Caribbean, with a faunal overlap from both places leading to high species richness. The paper confirms the presence of typical Caribbean fish species in the reef, such as the Blue Chromis (Chromis cyanea). The most abundant scleractinian coral species recorded was the Ten-ray Star Coral (Madracis decactis), a species that is usually found from the Gulf of Mexico to south of Brazil.
Total has applied for a license to drill for oil in the Amazon Reef region and operations could start as early as this year. Greenpeace is calling on the oil giant to cancel its project. A spill in the region could be devastating to a biome that scientists have barely studied and to coastline communities that depend on a healthy ocean for their way of life. The Brazilian government’s decision is due in the next few weeks.

Wonderfully informative in easily accessible language!
Your information is always accessible, written in plain English and informative
Excellent, easy to read more salient points
It is great to be part of the work you are doing please carry on i wish you all success thank you
Very pleasant to look at and easy to follow
Same old, same old. No matter the damage to any environment, you just gotta get that oil outta there dude, because oil means dollars, and dollars are what our shareholders want,so keep on extracting, twenty four seven, 'till we've killed every thing in the surrounding area. At the end of the day, who cares if a few fish die, it's of no importance.
When will commonsense and respect for the environment take precedence over greed for financial gain?
What they said ... But there is trash everywhere! Surely it is all our responsibility to do our bit - pick up trash wherever we see it and deliver to the right can for proper disposal/recycling. Take a walk along any roadside in the uk and see the garbage thrown from vehicles ... Climbing mountains and see fag ends dropped or blown there. etc etc and sadly etc. Walk the shores and ...
All petrochemical companies have got to reinvest in 'Green Energy' & environmentally friendly by products AND stop exploiting the planets natural resources for profit.
I was recently privileged to view a documentary called A Plastic Ocean which you can download from Amazon. At the end I was in tears . The programme Blue Planet has done a lot to awaken people to this catastrophe but A Plastic Ocean is gut wrenching. If this was shown worldwide, there would be uproar.
Stop Total from drilling for oil in the Amazon Reef!!
Save the seabeds in the Amazon Reef from the drilling
Yes this has to stop now before anymore damage is done. Our world is being destroyed at an alarming rate if we are not careful there will be nothing left
Carry on Greenpeace: you are vital to the future of humanity as well as all the wondrous planet we live in. We really need to act to save it
Hope the Brazilian Government get the right information and make the right decisions for once. This area is too important for the planet as well as Brazil to let the oil companies ruin it for the sake of greed and profit.
This must not happen the amazon reef is much too important . These big companies must stop harming our world and the animals in it.
pick up someone elses litter daily ! esp if close bin !
Stop this crazy drilling. We will destroy the planet and we will destroy ourselves.
I agree that this proposed new drilling must be stopped.
Reefs are not only incredibly beautiful and interesting environments, their health is vital for ours. Protect all reefs!
This is ridiculous - does no one ever learn from history? Drilling for oil in the Amazon reef will just result in further destruction of the world's natural habitat. Why is it that BIG businesses are so slow to understand. The Amazon reef needs preservation not destruction...............or else we will have nothing to pass on to our children and grandchildren. Money and profits cannot and must not be the only motivating force.
We need to stop Total drilling here.
Please put a end to this senseless and wanton disregard for the natural world,Stop this drilling Now!.
I am old enough to remember life without plastic so we can do it again. In the main it is only used by manufacturers to make more profit.
I wish every town would open a plastic free Supermarket in the middle of every town! I gave my car up at 70, 12 years ago to try to help the atmosphere. Being a non driver i need a place to shop where I can get all my shopping in one go as I can then get a taxi home.
Mind blowing. Why do humans think they can simply go ahead and destroy something so precious for a few more years of $$$?
I woke up this morning, and guess what?! we only had one earth to live on, one eco system that is very unbalanced and ill, it needs our intensive care! will you join us?!
We must stop ruining our planet. Do not allow this drilling to go ahead.
Yet again, the super-rich companies are exploiting wild life with little regard for it's welfare. good luck to Geenpeace for trying to protect these areas on our behalf.
Man is destroying this beautiful world, they have to stop before it's too late
Fruit was never wrapped when I was a child in the 1950s and we selected as many as we needed of each item at the local market. n Scunthorpe.
I'm sending a plastic wrapper that held 10 individually wrapped chicken pieces (brought for my dog), I was in big hurry shopping, brought these, opened the bag at home and found as much plastic as chicken - I'm returning the outer with a letter to M&S - I won't be buying this again and regardless of lack of time be more vigilant.
the time for man is slowly coming to an end. with this horror than is happening to the world. Mankind when it dies out must never be allowed to poison and f*ck up another planet
Thank you, thank you, thank you for discovering this, when enough people start to do the right thing then the whole universe can respond and help, it just needs critical mass to tip the balance from the greedy, ignorant, self centered types who have been dominating the world for so long, people really are Wakening Up,and taking the 'veils from our conciousness's' that have been put there by more unscrupulous beings than we where aware of, A HUGE WELL DONE GREENPEACE, it makes me well up with tears when good people make things happen
Most of the things that come wrapped in plastic are wrapped unnecessarily. I saw the item on the news where people took their goods to the checkout and then took the wrapping off and left it there. What a good idea. If we all did that, the companies would soon get the message. What happened to the good old paper bags we could have stuff in, greaseproof paper etc. All good for wrapping or packing things in. The French supermarkets use a weighing scale where you get a ticket with the cost of what you have bought which you stick onto the wrapping you have your goods in. Can we adopt that system perhaps?
We have more than enough oil already discovered without going looking for more. It is just not necessary to go looking for more in new areas, either offshore as in the Arctic or Amazon Reef, or onshore as on Leith Hill. We have plenty of reserves until renewables can take over 100%.
Yes, definitively we must stop the driving oil companies to destroy this Amazon Reef precious for us and marine live. Please, we must save the Amazon Reef.
Demand that supermarkets bring back brown paper bags and, until they do, strip off all unnecessary packaging after it has been scanned and leave it at the store. The store will soon get the message.
Oil Companies need to put protection of the natural environment before their greed and selfishness. The oceans belong to everyone and everything and are not for polluters to spoil.
The proposed drilling for oil will damage the Amazon Reef because it is so close to it.
No oil drilling until we are absolutely sure it isn't destroying the small patches of nature that still exist on this planet!
STOP!!!
Someone either did a very poor job of surveying the location, or someone is telling lies, or people are taking back handers. Most likely all of those. It is time for businesses and everyone involved learnt what integrity is and how to make it a part of their whole life ethos.
Thank-you Greenpeace.
Oil drilling is out of date! No need for more, better sources of unpolluting energy are already available. Total should diversify if they want to survive, and protect not damage the planet.
Serious intelligent thinking has to go into food packaging in plastics, as well plastic cups etc so that alternatives must be found.
Try harder to find new ways of energy!!!
We all must reduce our use of fuels, by carpooling, walking and so on. We can reduce electricity consumption. Most of all we can reduce human population by Family Planning.
Why oh why are human beings so lazy and dirty. The disposal of rubbish anywhere on the planet shows a lack of respect to Mother Earth and immediate surroundings. It’s a daily event that humans are too lazy too dispose of the most simplest of rubbish. The fields where I live are full of it. To then ruin the oceans is criminal and we should seriously commence very expensive fines. It’s worse or at least as bad as drink driving. Our earth ecosystems should be protected from humans who appear to ruin everything in their path.
Its a good job Green Peace went there otherwise the oil companies would have destroyed it.
Well done again Greenpeace. Good luck with your campaign to protect the reef.
Let's take our own recyclable bags to centres and stop this abuse!!!!
Please do not carry on explorations for oil here it is an environmental catatrosphe for the huge reef and it's creatures which we all need in the chain of life.
I think that it's about time that the World governments became very serious in moving away from the use of oil and other fossil fuels and used renewables for our energy and packaging. The future of our planet depends on it. Now lets call a halt to drilling for oil in the seas and oceans.
Another fabulous area that's going to be completely destroyed if something isn't done to STOP this happening
No more drilling, please.
how long before we let them trash the whole earth ! its everyones problem , demand that the governments go green before its too late , money is ruling the world not the populace , try and change this by hassling your government
We must rid the planet of all the drastic plastic !!
Really don't want them to drill in this most precious environment. Don't these people respect anything!
Say NO! To plastics!!
THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED...!!! Save the Amazon Reef...!!!
Sorry Total but you cannot drill on this reef. Reefs are being destroyed by industry all over the world and we are more informed these days about why we should protect habitats. If you press to drill the only thing that will be destroyed is your reputation. Please act now in a responsible way. Thank you.
Whatever happened to brown paper bags?j
Save Nature!
Greed is all these companies are at Although it seems they are now fibbing as well This needs to be STOPPED Lets hope Brazil comes to its senses and prevents this ever happening
Is it not time that the government made it compulsory that plastics manufacturers made all of their products with recyclable plastic only. If this was done at source there would not be a problem with the public not knowing what is recyclable and what is not. A lot of plastic packaging could be replaced with cardboard or paper, one reason is that the government do not really care about the environment. The oil companies are only interested in money again like governments they don't care for the environment or the planet.
We reap what we sow.
We are the only creatures on earth that destroy the earth through pure greed and ignorance. I am ashamed to be called a human. Wake up before it is too late. Stop the destruction of the very ecosystem that supports all life. 'Live simply so that others may simply live'. Mahatma Gandhi.
Stop this madness of world destruction now
Please stop destroying our oceans! it is bad enough that our earth is being destroyed, when is it ever going to end! when it is too damned late as usual.
This has to be stopped..we can't keep losing our precious world to these faceless corporations!!!
The oil companies are keen to maintain a reputation for being attentive to the environment, sensitive to public opinion and basically as 'good people'. So this is something that could be challenged perfectly if Greenpeace could get the right message across.! Good luck! Brazil is trying ex-presidents for corruption and so surely they do not want to be seen as reckless and greedy....
It’s absolutely horrific I honestly can’t believe this has been able to happen. Using our oceans as a rubbish tip and the governments have approved it without question. Water is the worlds biggest source of life and yet we have polluted and abused it in this way. It makes me sick.
It’s absolutely horrific I honestly can’t believe this has been able to happen. Using our oceans as a rubbish tip and the governments have approved it without question. Water is the worlds biggest source of life and yet we have polluted and abused it in this way. It makes me sick.
Saving our oceans and finding sustainable ways to produce energy is more important than drilling for oil and thus destroying more of our planet.
stop the madness
Haiting plastisk in the osen !
1.Shrink-wrapping bottled water to give packs of 6. Convenient, yes but these packs could be held together with single strips of recyclable binding or packed in cardboard carriers. 2. Hardware, for example, tools encased in plastic . Some of this packaging cannot be recycled and this is solely for the producers'/vendor's convenience . Some items so packed are impossible to examine or try out before buying. Shops are going to have to re-think their security and storage systems.
We are the only caretakers of our planet. So what are our hopes and fears for our childrens' heritage? Let us leave them the beautiful world they deserve.
We are the only caretakers of our planet. So what are our hopes and fears for our childrens' heritage? Let us leave them the beautiful world they deserve.
We know we must leave the oil in the ground in order to have a chance of stabilising global temperatures. Ruining the Amazon Reef in order to get at oil we can't safely use is beyond belief.
I know most of plastic packaging needs to be banned. However surely paper would re-appear. Paper comes from TREES. Can you see what I'm even more worried about!
Stop the oil companies, please!
Why do people always want to destroy where they live, or at least exploit areas not close to them (not in my back yard!!)? There is no forethought for future generations. Do they expect that we will cease to exist in 20/100 years? Thank goodness for Greenpeace!
Let's not destroy new species before we have even found them. I thought the world was reducing it's use of fossil fuels
No, no this cannot happen we have to protect the Amazon it is already fragile. We could be looking at a massive disaster. Millions of wildlife would be killed. We cannot keep taking from these areas they need to be protected from man after all we have already ruined enough of our world.
We Have one planet, we need to remember there is nowhere else to live if we destroy it!
The law is made to be applied, enforced by the people who are perfect in respect the law, for to protect the people and as human being, we have the right to be protected by law.
Oil must not to be extracted from the Amazon Reef. Oil companies must bite the bullet and invest in renewable energies if they want to exist in the future. Oil is the energy of the past like coal. The world must learn to find alternatives.
Its Amazing about the coral reef and i am pleased with all the work Green Peace has done to save this important part of our Eco system you can never replace something as wonderful as the Amazon coral reef so any oil drilling would cause unrepairable damage there are places which are a wonder of Nature and this is one of them so tell the oil drillers hands off the Amazon Reef.
Shared on Faceboo. Time we gave up drilling anywhere.
Why can't we go back to paper bags. They worked for years, as did paper straws. Stop producing plastic for produce We managed with out it before.
The oil industry is so last century! Instead of destroying the world even more - in the process of searching for new oil - investment needs to be researched into new energy!! We need to save what little we have - the Amazon Basin! The Western World needs to give money to Brazil & Indonesia to stop raping our Earth!
i wish it were possible to go to any supermarket and find non cling film wrapped produce. But apart from the occasional carrot or potato nothing like that seems to exist. Time for paper bags to make a comeback as was case until plastic was invented. Small veg shops often sell produce loose, but apparently the shopkeepers are obliged to put everything straight into a plastic carrier. However one such shop I know does empty things like plums or tangerines into the customers bag and saves the plastic container.? Just as many of us have learned to take our own carriers to supermarkets to avoid 5 p charge, perhaps we could learn to take paper bags and maybe some of the empty plastic boxes in which fruit etc have been stored thus allowing them to have more than single usage.
No to all plastic as food cover or any packaging.
No more Oil drilling in the core of the Earth including in the oceans as we need to protect the core of the Earth & in the oceans. We all need to protect the core of the Earth & in the oceans or else we'll not survive on the Earth just like all different kind of Wildlife Animals have been dying of starving & murdered, etc. Everything I see on the internet is getting worse that the people show that they don't care about the Earth & Wildlife Animals. STOP & SHOW that we really do care about the core of the Earth & in the oceans now. Please protect the core of the Earth & the oceans , please?
Or content with destroying the Rainforest now we want to destroy the Amazon Reef. Have these people no shame? Have they no respect for the very planet that sustains us? This is all about money and greed as per usual. It is high time that we evolved and researched more into non fossil fuel resources.
I bought a slice of cheese from the cheese counter at Waitrose last week, which was wrapped in cling wrap, and had the price on, ( less than if one buys pre packaged cheeses) . The assistant insisted on putting it in a small plastic bag. After my protestations, she insisted that she HAD to do that! This is SO ridiculous! Sainsbury’s still refuse to put fish or meat into my own comtainers, whereas Waitrose now will. Brilliant! but they are more expensive than Sainsbury’s ! How will we ever rid the world of plastic pollution? I did complain to the Sainsbury’s duty manager, and told him I wouldn’t buy anything that didn’t have to be pre packed, or bagged, until they changed their policy..
This cannot go ahead, and damage this reef, especially when our world eco.system is already so fragile.
So glad you’re on the case Greenpeace; what would we do without you. These oil companies need to be stooped. Don’t these people have children who have a future they should care about
We need to completely stop drilling for all new oil and gas now; but to drill in a pristine part of the environment is insane! Well done to Greenpeace for shining a light on this new threat. Let's all resolve to do whatever it takes to stop it materialising.
This should be opposed.
Under NO circumstances should drilling be allowed where a coral reef is located. That is a key to earth's survival.
We need to stop this drilling everywhere in our oceans, and really need to stop in these important areas. IT HAS TO STOP NOW!!!
Stop companies exploring
Total's application for a license to drill for oil in the Amazon Reef region must be refused by the Brazilian government. The ocean must be kept healthy.
Disappointed with the oil companies. Why does another reef have to be destroyed by pollution.
stop oil companies drilling everywhere full stop.
Please continue this vital work and a huge Thankyou for all the ways you empower and encourage a growing web of us humankind to support and be a community of action with Greenpeace. This is a time of catastrophic exploitation of the earth and her oceans, and all forms of life. Let us not be ensnared by apathy and fear. Greenpeace holds hope, let’s respond grow a little step of action and not turn away.
We don't need more oil, but we do need diverse animals and plants. Please don't give Total permission to drill in The Amazon.
Stop, stop stop. Don't damage our world. ☹
Unbelievable ! There's enough damage done already !!! Taking all this oil from the sea is gonna de-stabilise everything it's just the matter of WHEN !!! All these people think about is MONEY !!!
WHEN I TRY TO SUPPORT YOU IN YOUR WORTHY EFFORTS BY SIGNING YOUR PETITIONS I GET HALTED BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE U.K. AND WHEN I ENTER MY POST CODE (HX1 4SD), I KEEP GETTING TOLD THAT MY POSTCODE IS: "INVALID"!
This must no go on, we are killing the very think we need to survive please governments all round the world wake up and smell the coffee............
no more plastic bags no more plastic bottles save our oceans
Terrifying to think Total may get permission.
do not drill near the reef - it's not worth the damage - your execs also live in this world and perhaps have children who will inherit the mess too
We cannot risk damage to any more reefs. If the oceans fail we will have lost the race to protect the climate.
We cannot risk damage to any more reefs, they are irreplaceable.
I think maize husk can be used to make a sort of paper-we could use that instead of some plastic wrapping-most root veg need no wrapping any way, and can go straight in a shopping bag!
It occurs to me that if fruit and veg needed to be wrapped in plastic, nature would have got round to evolving in this way...oh, it has - skins, husks, shells! The other reason for wrapping our food is to make it a more attractive purchase...my local Sainsbury’s sells a plastic pack of fruit more cheaply per kilo than single fruits, so more plastic and usually more food waste as most fruit has been picked too early and sprayed to stop it rotting during travel. And as for the “Sorry, this packaging isn’t currently recyclable” labels, what use are they to the consumer? We just end up having to landfill unnecessary packaging on the producers behalf. Grrrr!
We have to learn to live a different way. Before we had all this oil and before plastic we all survived to tell the tale. It's all shortcuts now and big bucks. Too much apathy....get busy fighting for the planet.
A reefs is a precious resource that should not be endangered merely for profit/greed
Lots of letters and brochures come to me in plastic bags instead of paper. Ridiculous.
if we carry on like this I dread to think what the world is going to look like in 2050!
That den of war mongering pillaging ruthless nation of commercially educated idiots, THE USA; where the large dark corporate forces who's only God is the dollar, do not give a damn about other superior cultures, (other than bombing them out of existence with their phoney trumped up wars) the planet, the people and wild life that have to try to live in capitalism's Yankee free trade-free raid, to each according to their greed jettisoned filth, and press ganging the working-class fodder boys to war, protecting wealthy's way of privileged life.
Be tragic if drilling is allowed.
Stop the drilling forthwith. . .we must protect our environment.
How wonderful that you have found this reef. Well done.
We all need to do our bit to help the environment and also our wonderful creatures
Too much plastic is used for packaging items that have their own cover and do not require a second or third layer. It is the deliberate waste of materials. Often these materials split into small pieces but do not bio-degrade
We need to act now to prevent the potential destruction of the Amazon reef by oil extraction. The reef is a marine habitat of worldwide importance and should be protected.
Planet Earth is the only thing we have to live on. The human race is killing planet Earth. Very soon it will be to late to stop its death.
Please stop this terrible destruction
These oil companies have to change where they're going to drill. We cannot continue to destroy this planet.
We need to apply pressure to stop this
How can anyone argue against the facts as set out here? This has to be meaningfully dealt with and soon for all our sakes, animal or human!
More drilling means more oil, more plastic, more air pollution and habitat destruction. Same old damaging cycle. This has got to stop especially in these critical and sensitive area of natural beauty and habitat for wildlife. Why are wildlife threatened throughout the world? Habitat and food source destruction.
NO,NO, NO, NO, NO,........NO,!!
There is no need for any more exploration or indeed production. In any event the environmental impact claims by Total are invalid, and therefore any more work by them is illegal.
When a 'Find' like this is found, it must be priceless.....and globally must not be destroyed !
Save the reef & Bio diversity
This is EARTH DAY - yet we're a million miles away from clearing up the mess we humans have made of the earth. In spite of all the modern technology and science we have at our disposal we don't look after our earth as well as previous generations who didn't have these benefits. And now oil companies want to start doing more damage; leave the coral reef areas alone! Look elsewhere, or better still, look into ways of reducing our need and dependence on oil and oil related products. And let's start doing that NOW!
ban the TOTAL destruction...
An act of ecological vandalism, cars will soon be run on electricity, god speed the day.
It is clear that the oceans of our planet need protection, not just for the marine life but for us and the healthy future of our planet. Full and complete surveys are absolutely necessary before any ex[explorations into oil-drilling etc are carried out.
Stop Total drilling in the Amazon Reef for the sake of our planet, after all most of these people that make huge profits out of this will be dead and gone by the time all of this becomes a reality for other generations.
unless humans tackle their love of products made from oil the planet will be destroyed green peace has been around along time and fails to get the message across to the majority of consumers I think if you concentrated on making people aware of the cost of their every day life styles on the environment, top gear individual transport, sports, leisure, flying would have be totally re thought are people prepared to give it all up ! ,you have to educate, that's where I feel you need to concentrate then they might support you on mass
Hi I agree with you 100% because a lot of food that supermarkets sell that is wrapped & sealed in plastic is not required as in many case's when you buy it & keep it for a couple of days in your fridge, then inside where the veg is, it starts to sweat & the food goes moldie so not hygienic & that defeats the object of keeping the veg or what ever is wrapped up in it fresh, instead bacteria grows inside the wrapper & the food goes bad very quickly. So as far as i am concerned do away with plastic wrappers altogether for everything. They should go back to brown paper bags & boxes which can be made out of recycled cardboard so they do not have to cut down any more trees to make the wrappers/boxes. While i am on here what about the carex hand cleaner, & not only carex how about all the other companies hand cleaner makers like Imperial Leather & others, do they not also use the same as carex for their hand cleaners.
There’s no way that drilling for oil in a pristine marine environment can avoid destroying a habitat that has taken millennia to evolve and is home to thousands of interdependent species. Just because we can doesn’t mean we must
this is crazy and unnecessary, come on guys lets save our planet....
This is appalling. A potentially amazing discovery to be destroyed by drilling for oil? No, no, no - protect the amazon reef!
Don't let the oil giants touch the Amazon Reef! It's the home of abundant wildlife, and needs to be preserved, and be able to thrive. I come from Santos - Brazil, and deeply care about the Amazon Basin and preserving the flora and fauna in that region.
The company and people who told the lies and made the false report about the extent of the reef should be fined or even taken to court. They are disgusting greedy selfish people. I hope they read this.
We must stop polluting our world. The produce we buy doesn’t need to be wrapped in plastic. We can use sustainable paper bags. As someone from an older generation we did not have plastic wrapped food and we must go back to the future. Also we must stop palm oil being added to all our products and food.
Don't want any more drilling where it destroys coral reefs or pollutes the ocean for the creatures who live there.
This must be stopped!
We are at the mercy of shops and supermarkets some of which overuse plastics in the most ridiculous careless packaging. It is up to the consumer not to be lazy and to challenge one's convenience to seek out better ways of shopping. If a great majority of consumers will refuse to buy packaged food the big chains and other selfish shops will soon react as they see their profits plummet. It is up to all of us to do something about this and not just relieve our conscience by ticking boxes in agencies such as Greenpeace online or on social media. If we all take action then we will win. The power is in our hands.
This area should be protected and we should not be drilling for oil anywhere near there.
This has to be stopped !!
Why is it that man seems so intent on destroying our planet?
You haven't said how we can pass on your information. Whatspp my only means.
Please don't destroy the reef there must be other places to drill safely
Total has to be stopped immediately from any drilling in the area of any part of the reef. A huge protest must be launched.
We must stop poisoning our planet. This generation has the strongest responsibility as we now have the knowledge if not the physical ability.
What else can I do to help down there, I want to get involved
And so it goes on! Lies, lies and more lies so as the oil giants can do what they want. And more millionaires can line their pockets even more.
Cigarette companies should package in recyclable materials not plastic the product isn't on the shelf long enough to warrant plastic packaging!!! Aside from coffee cups this is the second most common discarded waste I come across.
Please can the goverment stop BP and Total from destroying the life in our coral seabeds and polluting the water with their oil.
Great work Greenpeace the Amazon reef discovery shows exactly why the world needs you.
Well done Greenpeace for showing us the reef. It's time for all of us to stand up to these giants and stop them destroying the planet. I fear there will be very little wildlife left for our grand children all to line the rich pockets. I am glad Greenpeace exists to keep us informed.
I have been thinking this for years so I find it extraordinary that it is now being thought of as a new problem ! I and others have failed, in that we should have been pro active on this years ago and not let it reach this almost irreversible situation.
SAVE OUR OCEANS WE DO MOT NEED MORE OIL
Plastic have to be reduced and made to be biodegradable
Remember the last oil well leak destroyed millions of sea life and wildlife. We have to sign this petition now. The Amazon is already dying because of mankind.
I have written it Waitrose complaining re black plastic and have said I shall never buy anything in black plastic again. When a moment will write to Lidl's etc. Carry on the good work. I shall also will be writing to BP suggesting that they should/ extend their presence in renewables to keep their share holders happy. They do some ,but not nearly enough for my liking! Cheers Angela
Life in plastic it’s NOT fantastic...
Prevent oil companies drilling on amazon reef.
This needs to be stopped. So much can be learned from this reef and if total and b.p drill in this area after giving the Brazilian government false assurances it could be a disaster waiting to happen.
Unfortunately Brazil has a record of breaking rules concerning environment and tribal areas.
Is anyone dealing with the countries who have the 10 rivers who are doing 80% of the damage. I watched it happening on Sulawesi and Bunaken in 2011! The Indonesian government should be strung up!
Stop looping for the oil in this erea. Save the Amazon Reef!!!
Hasn’t enough damage been done to our planet. PLEASE show that you are responsible human beings and not just interested in lining your pockets at the cost of our oceans and sea life
THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED!!!!
Indeed it must - I trust many will begin to take effective action, and spread the word about the urgent need to do so.
Yes, it must be stopped! This crazy hunt for oil must really be stopped!
