We Will Stand Against White Supremacy, Greenpeace Executive Director Responds to Attack in Buffalo

May 15, 2022

These attacks are sanctioned by political movements that use racism to divide us and pit us against one another. We will never create the green and peaceful future we all want if racist systems continue to divide and exploit us.

In response to yesterday’s shooting in Buffalo, NY, Ebony Twilley Martin, Greenpeace USA co-Executive Director, said:

“As a Black leader in the progressive movement, I cannot be silent in the face of yesterday’s violent attack on Black Americans. What we saw in Buffalo is the modern-day equivalent of a race riot meant to terrorize and silence Black people. It is the latest in a surge of violence–on January 6, in El Paso, in Charleston. These attacks are sanctioned by political movements that use racism to divide us and pit us against one another. We will never create the green and peaceful future we all want if racist systems continue to divide and exploit us. The powerful use that division to profit from the destruction of the environment and to strip us of our dignity, our health, our livelihoods, and all too often, our lives. But we will not be silenced in the face of hatred and racism. We will not be divided. We will stand together and fight against white supremacy.”
