The 2022 World Air Quality Report presents an overview of the state of global air quality last year in 2022. Data from more than 30,000 air quality monitoring stations across 7,323 locations in 131 countries, territories, and regions was analyzed by IQAir’s air quality scientists. India has ranked 8th in the global list of countries with the most hazardous air quality and hosts 12 of the 15 most polluted cities from Central and South Asia.
Along with alarming levels of pollution with the potential to cause public health issues, the report also shows the inequity in air quality, with some groups far more vulnerable than others. It is high time India’s air pollution crisis is treated with urgency, starting with revised strict guidelines on air quality standards.
