Our vision

We believe optimism is a form of courage. We believe that a billion acts of courage can spark a brighter tomorrow. To that end we model courage, we champion courage, we share stories of courageous acts by our supporters and allies, we invite people out of their comfort zones to take courageous action with us, individually in their daily lives, and in community with others who share our commitment to a better world. A green and peaceful future is our quest. The heroes of our story are all of us who believe that a better world is not only within reach, but being built today.

Greenpeace started in 1971 when a group of 12 activists set sail to Amchitka island off Alaska to try and stop a US nuclear weapons test. Their old fishing boat was called “The Greenpeace”, and the money for the mission was raised with a concert. This is where our story begins. Read: Amchitka – the founding voyage

Inspired by Greta Thunberg and the youth climate strikes as well as Reverend Barber’s Moral Mondays and Randall Robinson’s often daily anti-apartheid protests, Jane Fonda has moved to Washington, D.C. to be closer to the epicenter of the fight for our climate. Every Friday through January 2020, she will be leading weekly demonstrations on Capitol Hill to demand that action by our political leaders be taken to address the climate emergency we are in. This sixth week of protests brings Actresses June Diane Raphael & Brooklyn Decker introducing the speakers including: Kerene Tayloe; Mark Magaña; Catherine Flowers; Von Hernandez; Khadija Khokhar; Abigail Disney; Robert Kennedy, Jr.; and Yvette Arellano., 8.19.90.6th Fire Drill Friday

Climate activist and super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) survivor Joanna Sustento starts an indefinite lone protest in front of the Philippine headquarters of Shell to call for climate justice. The protest highlights the huge role of fossil fuel companies, such as Shell, in fueling the climate crisis and the injustice and suffering experienced by vulnerable communities in the Philippines and around the world. Greenpeace is calling on Shell to wake up to the climate emergency, heed the call of communities for justice, and start a rapid and just transition to phase out fossil fuels
