Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Historic SCOTUS Confirmation

April 7, 2022

In response to the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Greenpeace USA Democracy Campaign Director Folabi Olagbaju said:

“By confirming the court’s 116th justice, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, our nation’s leaders have shown they heard the will of the people. We are pleased with her confirmation and believe she will be a fair Supreme Court Justice who will rebalance our nation’s highest Court, and carry out its sacred duty to protect our rights, secure our liberties, and render equal justice.

“Through many rigorous hearings, Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson has shown intellect and grace under bad-faith attacks on her character. For generations, Black women have been locked out of the opportunity to serve on the Supreme Court. With the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, we are taking a step toward making our justice system one that respects and reflects the very best of every American.

“Judge Jackson understands the difference between science and politics and recognizes the government’s responsibility to protect people, our health, and our planet. As the first public defender and first Black woman appointed this nation’s highest court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is well equipped to defend our democracy and the people who have been historically underserved by those in power.

“Her historic confirmation as Supreme Court Justice will help our country become one that better serves those the courts serve: the people and the planet on which we all depend on to thrive. “
