In response to the Leaked Draft Supreme Court of the United States’ Opinion overturning Roe v Wade, Ebony Twilley Martin, Greenpeace USA co-Executive Director, said:
“Greenpeace USA is beyond disappointed that the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v Wade. The consequences will be devastating, and we know exactly who will be most impacted by this decision: poor women of color. The women who do not have money or access to birth control. The women who do not have access to health care. The women who cannot get emergency care after sexual assault. Racism, economic insecurity, and immigration status multiply the already massive barriers to abortion care. So, our solutions must include racial, economic, and immigrant justice.
This ruling would tear down a long held protection on women’s rights and open the door for future attacks on our health and our already corroding democracy. Our democracy and the rule of law are both at stake here. This decision would change the course of history as we know it—it’s reminiscent of slavery. We must fight back.
Polls show that over 70 percent of Americans believe abortion should be legal. We need fair and equity minded judges who understand the difference between science and politics and recognize the government’s responsibility to protect this nation’s people, our health, and our communities.”
