WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 20, 2026) – Greenpeace USA today announced the upcoming release of GASLIT, a new documentary featuring Academy Award-winning actor and activist Jane Fonda, set to premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 5, 2026.
In GASLIT, Fonda embarks on a road trip through Texas oil fields and Gulf Coast communities, meeting the people on the frontlines of the United States’ fossil fuel expansion. Since 2023, the U.S. has become the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), and oil and gas companies are simultaneously fueling a massive boom in plastics production, doubling down on petrochemicals to secure their long-term future. GASLIT also features award-winning actor Connie Britton, and multi-platinum, Grammy Award-nominated producer/ songwriter/ performer Maggie Rogers joining forces with Fonda to highlight the dire nature of environmental injustice.
The film offers an intimate and urgent portrait of shrimpers, cattle ranchers, former oil workers, families, faith leaders, organizers, and self-described “reluctant activists” who are standing up to the harms caused by this expansion. These individuals – across political and cultural spectrums – have come together in defense of the communities and coastlines they love.
“This boom isn’t just about oil and gas – it’s about injustice, pollution, and the destruction of entire communities,” said Jane Fonda, actor and activist. “GASLIT is about amplifying the voices of everyday Americans who are too often ignored. They know what it means to confront power that is seemingly insurmountable, even when you have everything to lose.”
Directed by Katie Camosy, GASLIT is both a call to action and a reflection on the decades-long struggle between fossil fuel profiteering and the survival of frontline communities.
“Now more than ever, we need the world to hear directly from those experiencing the climate crisis firsthand,” said Katie Camosy, Director of GASLIT. “GASLIT is a visual representation of the movement and the people fighting tooth and nail for their lives every day. We’re deeply grateful to the communities in the Gulf South for their leadership – and we hope that people leave the theater feeling both outraged and inspired by their stories.”

ABOUT GREENPEACE USA:
Greenpeace USA (Greenpeace Inc.) is an independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful protest, creative communication, public advocacy, and lobbying to expose global environmental problems and promote solutions that are essential to a green, just, and peaceful future. Greenpeace USA has been bearing witness to and demanding action on climate change for most of its nearly five decades of campaigning. Having partnered with communities on campaigns in the Permian Basin and the Gulf South for decades, Greenpeace USA forged strong relationships with the grassroots movements working hard to push back against the expansion of polluting fossil fuel and petrochemical infrastructure in the best interest of local communities. These local ties — along with the relationships actor and activist Jane Fonda has established through Greenpeace USA’s Fire Drill Fridays collaboration — uniquely positions Greenpeace USA, as part of the Greenpeace global network, to tell the stories of how actions taking place in the Gulf South and the Texas Permian Basin have an impact well beyond U.S. borders.
