Manchin’s new legislation in Congress is a fossil-fueled nightmare

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 29, 2024)–In response to United States Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY) bringing forth the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 to Congress, Greenpeace USA Climate Campaigner Destiny Watford said: “Manchin and Barrasso’s new bill is a fossil-fueled nightmare that would destroy both entire ecosystems and ways of life, and undermines the Biden and Harris administration’s LNG pause. It would handcuff the next administration to approve new LNG projects, including the proposed gas export facility CP2. It is a long sought fossil fuel industry wishlist plain and simple.

“We need Congress to reject this proposal and stop the unhinged LNG buildout threatening the Gulf Coast and swiftly move away from all new fossil fuel infrastructure.”
