Markey and Waxman Remix Chemical Security

by John Deans

June 20, 2011

On May 26th, Rep. Ed. Markey sang a song about chemical security in the hopes that the Republicans on the Energy and Commerce Committee would be able to understand why chemical plants are dangerous and why facilities should convert to IST or “inherently safer technologies.” Unfortunately, the committee members’ ears were clogged with too much chemical and oil industry money so they couldn’t hear properly. They voted to pass the bill, HR 908.

We thought Rep. Markey’s song was good enough to remix, so here is our version. This wee,  the House Homeland Security Committee is meeting to vote on another industry-backed bill, HR 901. They should be smarter than the Energy and Commerce Committee and vote AGAINST the bill, instead of delaying disaster prevention for another 7 years!
