Endorsing this Dirty Deal is an assault on the health of the very same communities who canvassed, supported, and waited in line for hours to elect President Biden and a Congress that would address the climate emergency.

Washington DC (Dec. 15, 2022)–In response to the White House signaling support for Sen. Manchin’s Dirty Deal, Ebony Twilley Martin, co-Executive Director at Greenpeace USA, said: “President Biden’s support for Manchin’s permitting legislation is an absolute disappointment and a huge betrayal to Black and Brown communities. Endorsing this Dirty Deal is an assault on the health of the very same communities who canvassed, supported, and waited in line for hours to elect President Biden and a Congress that would address the climate emergency.
“This attempt to advance Manchin’s Dirty Deal betrays the environmental justice movement and all of the frontline communities that are already being affected by the climate crisis that these selfish politicians and the oil and gas industry helped create. It’s time for politicians to protect our communities, not sell out to the oil and gas industry that continues to pollute them. Anyone supporting this deal is sending a clear message: They don’t care about our lives. This vote for “permitting reform” will further devastate disadvantaged communities that are being hammered by climate disaster, and will wreak more havoc within communities that already live with poor health. Our children bear the brunt of this injustice. President Biden promised to work with the people to tackle the climate crisis. We are demanding that he rejects all fossil fuel projects and declares a climate emergency. Enough is enough. Our communities can’t wait anymore.”
