Washington DC (Sept. 27, 2022)–In response to the dirty permitting deal being removed from the continuing resolution, Greenpeace USA Chief Program Officer Tefere Gebre said: “This is a victory for anyone who enjoys breathing clean air and drinking clean water. This proposal was not permitting reform, it was a handout to the companies that continue to be caught red-handed attempting to delay climate action and silence community protectors. This deal would have been the ultimate betrayal of all the people of color that stood in line for hours and hours, electing leaders that were supposed to protect them. This must signal an end to backroom deals that sacrifice the health and safety of our communities at the altar of Big Oil profits.”
