Climate Message on the Hollywood Sign
As United Nations climate negotiations began in Dubai, Greenpeace USA sent a message showing the iconic Hollywood Sign appearing to burn up, be covered in oil, and sending a strong message to Governor Gavin Newsom, President Joe Biden, and other world leaders demanding real climate action. The video features extreme weather events impacting California and calls out major oil companies fueling the climate crisis.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (November 30, 2023) – This morning, as United Nations climate negotiations began in Dubai, Greenpeace USA launched a cinematic portrait of the iconic Hollywood Sign transformed by projection – featuring extreme weather events impacting California and calling out major oil companies fueling the climate crisis. The video sends a strong message to Governor Gavin Newsom, President Joe Biden, and other world leaders demanding real climate action.

A full video of the projection is available here.

Tefere Gebre, Greenpeace USA Chief Program Officer, said: “The climate crisis is here, and it’s killing us. At the start of COP28, we’re calling on Governor Newsom, President Biden, and other world leaders to be the climate champions we so desperately need.

“To survive and create a more livable world for the future, we need a reckoning that forces fossil fuel polluters to stop drilling and start paying. They must begin to fix the dramatic damage they’ve caused for decades. The solutions are ready, and a fast and fair transition to renewable energy is possible — in California, the United States, and beyond. Our people and planet deserve a ‘Hollywood’ ending.”
