I am often asked, what drives me in my fight for the planet? Indeed, it has been difficult and frustrating to see the damage that humans have, and are continuing to, inflict on Earth. Now, more than ever.
Devastating floods in Europe. Temperatures soaring to 45C in Canada. Mudslides in Japan. Cloud bursts in India. Floodings in subways in New York and central China.
We have seen extreme weather events, from the chilling polar vortex in North America, the super cyclones in Africa, to the devastating floods in Australia and parts of Asia. There were also record-breaking standstorms and unprecedented wildfires.
Ten years have been a long journey. Looking back at the archives from the first team deployed to Fukushima on 26 March, 2011, it reminds us that a decade is a long time but also not enough to wash away the pain caused from the accident.
2020 has been a difficult year for so many of us. Lockdowns and social distancing became the “new normal”, changing our lives as if we’re living through a science fiction movie.
