Researchers say they've figured out how to power cell phones with urine. Thankfully we have solar power to avoid the grossness of pee or coal.

Researchers say they’ve figured out how to power mobile phones with urine. Thankfully we have solar power to avoid the grossness of pee or coal.

Researchers in the UK say they’ve figured out how to power cell phones from… human urine. The story, from Time:

Okay, so you dont actually pee on the phone, because thats gross, but scientists with the U.K.-based Bristol Robotics Laboratory claim theyve indeed managed to harness the power of urine to produce sufficient energy to charge a garden variety cellphone.

It is probably worth noting that there are some less… gross, frankly… presently available ways to make clean electricity, like power from the sun and wind. Technology companies like Apple, Facebook and Google are increasingly powering aspects of the Internet that way. So let’s not leap for the urinals quite yet – though that would definitely be an upgrade over coal – by far the most disgusting way of getting electricity!
